Portrait of America aims to reflect on the unique history and diversity of our country through portraits of the people who live and work here. The competition selected 100 winning images to be published in the 2nd edition Portrait of America book and featured in an exhibition at Fabrik Projects gallery space in Los Angeles , CA from NOV 23 – Dec 14 2019

This picture of my 10 year old daughter was taken when she was trying on her costume for a school presentation on George Washington. The portrait captures many different aspects of today’s social and political landscape including; The changing demographics in America. The arguably anti-latino anti-immigration political sentiment and struggle to achieve the ‘American Dream.’ Revisionist history of United States and the education system’s role in promoting American propaganda. Gender identity and gender roles. And, the recent trend of school shootings and gun control.
Portrait of America is a nationwide project which aims to show the true face of modern America through photographic images.
